Experiences using the "Shop App" (or Shop channel) in Europe

Hey everyone

I’m curious to hear your experiences with the Shopify “Shop” channel.

We’ve had the Shop channel active for all of our products for quite a long time, but haven’t gotten a single order through the Shop channel. Is it the same for you? Any best practices or suggestions to push this more?

We’re only active in Europe (primarily Switzerland/ Germany/ Austria), so I’m specially curious about experiences from these countries. But would also be great to hear some feedback from the US/ Canada to see if traffic on the Shop app has kicked-in already there.

The idea as such seems great in my opinion - I just feel like it hasn’t really materialized yet in Europe and want to see if people share this opinion or not :slightly_smiling_face:

Cheers
Tjam

Hi @tjam

I get where you’re coming from, and it makes sense to ask about how others are experiencing the Shop channel, especially in Europe. The concept of the Shop App is promising—giving customers an easy way to discover and buy from brands—but it doesn’t seem to have gained the same traction everywhere.

Why You Might Not Be Getting Orders via Shop1. #### Limited Awareness & Adoption in Europe

  • The Shop App is much more popular in the US and Canada because Shopify has been actively pushing it there. In Europe, adoption is slower, especially in markets like Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. Many consumers may not even know about the app.1. #### Shop Pay Adoption
  • Shop Pay is a key part of the Shop ecosystem. If your customers aren’t familiar with or don’t use Shop Pay, they’re less likely to complete purchases through the app.1. #### Shop App Ranking & Visibility
  • The Shop App promotes stores based on engagement, repeat purchases, and trust factors. If your customers don’t actively follow your store or engage via Shop, your visibility within the app could be low.1. #### Market Differences
  • In some European regions, customers are more used to traditional e-commerce platforms (like Amazon, Zalando, or Otto) rather than shopping through a third-party app.

Best Practices to Get More Orders from the Shop App1. #### Encourage Customers to Use the Shop App

  • Add a message on your website, email marketing, or checkout confirmation encouraging users to track their orders via the Shop App. This helps boost engagement.1. #### Leverage Shop Cash (if available in your country)
  • In certain regions, Shopify offers incentives like Shop Cash rewards, which can help drive conversions.1. #### Optimize Your Store for Shop App Discovery
  • Make sure your store is fully set up in the Shop channel with high-quality product listings and branding. This helps with visibility in the app’s recommendations.1. #### Run Retargeting Campaigns via the Shop App
  • If you have an active customer base, you can retarget past buyers with personalized product recommendations through Shop’s built-in marketing features.1. #### Monitor Regional Expansion
  • Shopify is constantly rolling out updates. Keep an eye on any announcements regarding increased Shop App promotion in Europe—it may pick up more momentum in the future.

From what I’ve seen, the Shop App is definitely more effective in North America right now. But in Europe, it’s still in a growing phase. Hopefully, Shopify will expand its reach and awareness in the region soon.

If you need any other assistance, I am willing to help.
Best regards,
Daisy.
