Export orders to downloads and avoid email links

Topic summary

A user seeks to bypass Shopify’s default behavior of emailing CSV exports when selecting over 50 orders, preferring direct downloads instead. They need to export 200+ orders at a time, and sharing a main email among staff creates confusion.

Current Limitation:
Shopify has no native setting to force downloads for bulk exports—options are limited to email links or API access.

Suggested Solutions:

  • Third-party apps like Matrixify, EZ Exporter, or DataChamp can export directly to cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, FTP) or email files as attachments rather than links
  • Shopify Flow offers Google Sheets row integration for specific workflows
  • Apps allow setting multiple filters to target specific order sets

Additional Question:
One participant asks about re-importing exported orders into a new store, though this remains unanswered.

The discussion remains open with no built-in solution, but multiple app-based workarounds are available.

Hello!

We are looking for some help on overriding the pre-set rules by Shopify that selecting over 50 orders the export will be sent via an email link, we would rather have the orders always download to our computer. If there a settling to force a download or code that can override these settings.

We are looking to export 200+ orders at a time if needed and staff share the main email, so it gets messy fast.

Hi @shimlee :waving_hand: There is no setting, currently shopify’s only methods for bulk export are emailing the generated CSV, or the api.

For the former this is process you need to create either through custom app development, service integrations,

or a shopify store app.

Afaik both matrixify and ez-exporter have integrations with cloud spreadsheets google-sheets or airtable ; or for storage destinations FTP, google-drive, dropbox etc which in turn have features to have local desktop folders.

Also be aware shopify-flow has a google-sheets row integration if there’s some specific workflow that needs staff to work in spreadsheets.

Good Hunting.

Hey there Shimlee,

If you’re open to using an app, our app EZ Exporter can email the actual file as an attachment. You can also also upload directly to Dropbox, Google Drive/Sheets, etc.

You can set multiple filters directly in the app to export all orders matching the filters.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the app.

Once downloaded to CSV file as instructed from shopify how can we import the order back into the new store created

Hi Shimlee,

If you’re open to using a third-party app, DataChamp allows you to create reports and export orders directly to Google Drive, Dropbox, or other storage options—no need to rely on E-Mail links.

Let me know if you have any questions during setup!

Best regards,
Melanie
