We are writing to strongly request the addition of a barcode scanning feature for in-store pickup picking. Currently, we utilize Shopify POS Pro for our in-store pickup operations for online orders. While the ability to identify orders by scanning the pickup slip’s QR code is highly convenient, we face significant challenges in terms of operational efficiency due to the lack of a standard feature to verify individual items using a barcode scanner during the picking process.
We understand that Shopify offers picking capabilities through fulfillment software and barcode scanners for shipping operations. This demonstrates Shopify’s commitment to optimizing warehouse operations. However, with the increasing demand for in-store pickups, we believe it’s equally crucial to streamline the picking process at the store level.
The current in-store pickup picking process requires manual item collection based on visual confirmation with a picking list. This not only increases the likelihood of human error but also raises concerns about potential customer inquiries and returns due to incorrect item picking.
We propose the following features be incorporated into the standard Shopify POS app:
- Functionality to verify scanned items against the picking list.
- Alert system for scanning incorrect items.
These enhancements would:
- Significantly improve picking accuracy and reduce incorrect shipments.
- Shorten picking times, leading to reduced labor costs.
- Enhance customer satisfaction.
Although third-party apps offering similar functionality are available on the Shopify App Store, we believe that integrating this feature as a standard, similar to the shipping functionality, would make it more accessible to a broader range of stores.
We sincerely hope that you will consider implementing barcode scanning for in-store pickup picking in future Shopify POS updates. We also welcome feedback and ideas from other merchants who share similar concerns, as well as suggestions for better solutions.

I just published an app called “A Full Fill” that might work for you. While it isn’t exactly built for pickup orders it does allow you to enter/scan an order number and see the items that need to be picked/packed. It then allows you to scan each item to ensure that you are picking the correct item/s. If you don’t have a barcode scanner, you can use the camera on your mobile device. I am eager to get feedback and make the app more useful. For example, I could possibly add a “shipping type = pickup” filter or similar. If you want to give the app a go, I would be happy to send you a credit for 6 months free usage. Would just ask for some feedback. The app is a bit hard to find in the app store so message if you decide to try it and can’t find it.
