Feature Request: Enable cross-border supplier connections in Shopify Collective within the EU single market
Shopify Collective currently restricts supplier-retailer connections to the same country only. This blocks legitimate EU single market commerce and contradicts both EU regulations and Shopify’s own philosophy of connecting suppliers and retailers.
The problem: As a Dutch retailer, I cannot connect with an Italian supplier through Shopify Collective — despite both operating legally within the EU single market, both VAT/OSS compliant, and cross-border trade being a fundamental EU right.
Why this matters:

The EU single market explicitly enables and protects cross-border commerce between member states

VAT/OSS registration covers EU-wide tax compliance centrally — there is no tax barrier to cross-border supplier connections within the EU

This restriction may conflict with EU single market regulations that guarantee freedom of cross-border trade between member states — a concern already raised with relevant authorities

Shopify Support has confirmed this restriction is by design, not a bug — it is a deliberate platform decision

This contradicts Shopify’s core philosophy of enabling commerce between suppliers and retailers

It is causing merchants to reconsider plan upgrades and hesitate to invite suppliers onto the platform
