Feature Request: Enable Editing Orders with Local Delivery

I’d like to request an enhancement to Shopify’s order editing functionality, specifically for orders with local delivery. Currently, Shopify does not allow merchants to edit orders that include local delivery as the fulfillment method. This limitation creates significant challenges for merchants who rely on local delivery as part of their business operations.

Why This Feature Matters:

  1. Flexibility for Merchants: Customers often request changes to their orders after placing them, such as adding or removing items. The inability to edit local delivery orders forces merchants to cancel and recreate orders, which is time-consuming and can lead to errors.
  2. Improved Customer Experience: Customers expect seamless service, including the ability to modify their orders. Not being able to accommodate these requests can result in frustration and a poor experience.
  3. Operational Efficiency: Manually recreating orders disrupts workflows, especially for businesses with high order volumes or tight delivery schedules.

Current Limitations:

  • Orders with local delivery cannot be edited once placed.
  • Merchants must cancel the original order and create a new one, which can confuse customers and complicate reporting.
  • This limitation is inconsistent with Shopify’s otherwise flexible order editing capabilities for other fulfillment methods.

Proposed Solution:

  • Allow merchants to edit orders with local delivery, including adding or removing items, changing quantities, or updating delivery details.
  • Ensure that any changes made to the order are reflected in the local delivery fulfillment process, including notifications to customers.

Yeah, that would be a great enhancement according to a survey, 86% of customers expect order modification options after purchase, and 70% of businesses say order editing improves customer satisfaction. The current limitation on local delivery orders creates unnecessary friction, especially for high volume merchants.
