Feature Request: Generate a single VAT invoice per order when using apps like Infinite Options

We would like to request an improvement to Shopify VAT Invoices.

Our store sells baby gifts and gift boxes, and we use the Infinite Options app to offer optional paid add-ons such as:

  • Gift wrapping

  • Greeting cards

  • Personalized card messages

These options are added to the Shopify order correctly and are an essential part of our business.

However, Shopify VAT Invoices currently generates multiple VAT invoices for a single order because these add-ons are treated as separate order line items.

For example:

  • Invoice 1: Baby gift box

  • Invoice 2: Greeting card (€1.75)

From both a merchant’s and customer’s perspective, this is not the expected behaviour. The customer placed one order and therefore expects one invoice.

This is particularly important for merchants with B2B customers. Many of our corporate customers require a single invoice for their accounting. Receiving two or more invoices for one order creates confusion and looks unprofessional, even though the order itself is correct.

We believe Shopify VAT Invoices should generate one invoice per order, regardless of whether order lines originate from Shopify products or trusted product option apps such as Infinite Options.

Alternatively, merchants could have a setting such as:

  • One VAT invoice per order (recommended)

  • One VAT invoice per order line

Many Shopify merchants use product option apps to offer paid extras such as gift wrapping, engraving, personalization or greeting cards. Supporting these common use cases with a single invoice would greatly improve the experience for both merchants and customers.

We hope Shopify will consider adding this functionality in a future update.
