Feature Request: Link Category Metafields to Individual Components in Bundles

Hi Shopify Team and Fellow Merchants,

I’d like to request a feature that allows category metafields to be linked to individual components within a bundle. Currently, Shopify treats bundles as a single product, which makes it impossible to dynamically link attributes (like “Top Color”) of individual components to category metafields.

Use Case: I sell bundles that include multiple components, such as canopies with tops and sidewalls. Each component has its own attributes (e.g., “Top Color” for the canopy top and “Sidewall Color” for the sidewalls). I want to link these attributes to the Color category metafield under Canopies & Gazebos in Outdoor Structures. However, since the bundle is treated as one product, I can’t link these attributes individually.

Current Workarounds:

  • Creating custom metafields for each component in the bundle (manual and time-consuming).
  • Using bundling apps (limited metafield support for individual components).
  • Custom development (costly and not scalable for all merchants).

Proposed Solution: Enable metafields to:

  1. Be linked to individual components within a bundle.
  2. Allow bundles to inherit metafields from their components.

Business Impact: This feature would:

  • Save time by reducing manual data entry.
  • Improve accuracy and consistency for product attributes.
  • Enhance the customer experience by displaying detailed, component-specific information on the storefront.

I believe this feature would benefit many merchants who sell bundles or multi-component products. If anyone else has faced similar challenges, please share your thoughts or upvote this request!

Thank you for considering this feature!
