FEATURE REQUEST: Point of Sale - Split Payment Three ways

I just had a person purchase an item for us in our shop.

First they presented a gift card, which I redeemed against the purchase.

Next they presented cash for part of the remaining balance and wished to pay the rest of the balance with their card. There was no way to do this. If I hit cash, the only option was to accept full payment. I could not select split payment. I could not exit the screen other than to mark the order as part paid. After doing that and going back into the order I had the same issue, the balance could not be split.

In the end they had to borrow the outstanding amount from their friend to pay entirely in cash and then owe their friend.

It was very embarrassing and did not reflect well on us.

FEATURE REQUEST: Point of Sale - Split Payment three ways

Puzzling, because I have accepted partial payments multiple times using the partial payment option.

@HKJ

I have accepted partial payments and split payments many times also, where the payments are split 2 ways. I could not accept one split 3 ways.

Are you using the admin or Shopify app? You can’t do it there, but can do it in POS app.

It’s not referred to as splitting three ways, but you can edit the amount paid, and leave the remaining balance as unpaid, then do that repeatedly until it’s fully paid off.

This field is editable.

Ah…

So after the initial split, you can physically change the amount that you take on the ‘second’ split, leaving an amount that you can pay subsequently.

I didn’t know that and will try it.

Thanks,

Yes, exactly. Let me know if it works for you.

Good luck.

The ‘work around’ is confusing to staff and causes yet one more delay by a POS system that needs updating to be a proper POS. We need to have the option to make the check out smooth and less painful for both staff and clients. Split payment option needs to be as many different payment types as they want, all in one transaction. We have also had this happen and didn’t know the work around. I doubt my part timers will figure this out while they have a line up of customers waiting to pay. Omnichannel companies putting out POS systems still need to catch up a bit to enable the system to work with the same smooth options as POS systems that are not omnichannel. Hoping this is one of those standard things that will get added, and then communicated via the changelog or directly to the users.
