Feature Request: Reflect canceled orders back on their original creation date in reports/dashboard

Hi Shopify Team,

I would like to suggest an enhancement regarding how canceled orders are reflected on the admin dashboard and reporting tools.

Currently, when an order is canceled, it impacts the data, but it would be much more accurate and helpful for store owners if canceled orders were reflected retroactively on their original order creation date, rather than just reducing overall metrics on the day of cancellation.

Why this matters:

  • Helps merchants analyze true daily sales and order conversion for specific past dates.

  • Prevents skewed daily reports when an old order is canceled days or weeks later.

  • Provides better data integrity for inventory and performance tracking.

Hoping to see this considered in future updates!

I think it would be good to enhance reports

Exactly! That flexibility (having an option/toggle for historical restatement vs. cancellation activity date) would solve the problem completely without losing track of daily operations. Thanks for adding such a valuable perspective to the request!

This is a valuable suggestion. Having cancellations reflected on the original order date would make historical reporting much more accurate, especially for merchants who rely on daily sales trends to make inventory and marketing decisions.

At the moment canceling an order can distort current-day reports instead of adjusting the historical data where the order actually occurred. An option to recalculate metrics based on the original order date or even a reporting toggle to choose between cancellation date and order date would give merchants a much clearer picture of store performance. I hope the team considers adding this flexibility in a future update.

Totally agree! Distorting current-day reports because of an old cancellation makes performance tracking unnecessarily messy. A toggle feature would be the ideal solution here. Thanks for backing this up!

Thanks for the support and the insights! I appreciate your input. Since this is an ongoing feature request for Shopify to implement, I’ll keep the post open so other merchants can continue to upvote and share their feedback. Thanks again!

I agree that having both reporting options would be useful.

When an order is cancelled days or weeks after it was originally placed, recording the adjustment only on the cancellation date can make historical performance more diffficult to evaluate. The original sales period may still include revenue from an order that was eventually cancelled, while the later period reflects an adjustment for a sale that did not actually occur during that period.

An optional reporting setting could potentially solve this by allowing merchants to choose between viewing cancellations on the date they occured or having the related saler metrics adjusted against the original order date.

Both views could serve different purposes. The original order date would be useful for reviewing historical sales, promotions, and performance trends, while the cancellation date would remain useful for monitoring operational activity.

It would also be helpful for reports to clearly indicate which reporting method is being used so that merchants can interpret and compare their date correctly

I think having the option to switch between these views would make Shopify reporting more useful without removing the existing visibility into when cancellations actually happen.

ully agree! Clearly indicating which reporting method is selected is crucial so merchants don’t get confused when analyzing their numbers across different timeframes.

Having that choice will definitely give us the best of both worlds — clean operational tracking and accurate historical trends. Thanks for adding such detailed insights to the discussion!
