Featured Collection Section - Crave Theme

For some reason, when you click on the view all button on the collection to see more of the products, it just reloads the page.

Does anyone know what to do here?

Hi, @dekiv

I understand you are seeing an issue whereby when you click the “View All” button on a collection page in order to view the other products in the collection, it instead refreshes the page.

First off, there is a password on your store so I am unable to view this to confirm, however, this can happen when the collection in question does not have enough products to load a page with other products. Can you confirm how many products you expected to see that are in this collection called FrontPage, to begin with?

I would love to chat with you further on this, so I am looking forward to helping out here.

From the screenshot I have noticed you are setting up a store for a restaurant or a meal prep service, is that correct? If you are, have you considered which delivery methods you are going to be using? If you are going with local delivery, we have plenty of resources to help you out in implementing this.

You need to complete the following before you can offer local delivery:

When it comes to local delivery you can set this up directly from the admin by following this guide here.

Hi @Rein

Thanks for getting back to me.

There was only 1/2 more products that were under that collection (as of now) as I haven’t added in the other 10 or so. But I have changed tactics and have instead utilised the ‘product grid’ that comes as part of the theme. But I do have some questions for you as yes this is a meal prep business.

  1. Is it possible to set the product grid to show certain products? (e.g. I dont want the weekly specials to show there as i’ve made a separate collection for them to be displayed, but they still show on product grid and it kind of duplicates the look of it)

  2. Delivery will only be within a 20km radius - is there a way I can set this up at all so customers can check whether their postcode can be delivered to?

  3. Delivery will be done by myself so I’m not using any third party delivery services.

  4. Is there a way I can add a subscription service to the site? e.g. subscribe for 1 month and get 10 meals at $100

Thanks for your help!

These are fantastic questions, happy to help.

  1. Changing the content of a collection is what is likely best here. What I would recommend is either creating a new automatic collection with new specifications, or you can create a manual collection that you keep up to date manually, which might actually work for you since there is a bespoke list of products that may rotate periodically.

You can create two types of collections:

  • An automated collection uses selection conditions to automatically include matching products. You can add up to 60 selection conditions. You can also specify whether products need to meet all of the conditions or any of the conditions to be included in the collection. When you add a new product that matches the selection conditions for a collection, the product is automatically added to the collection.

Automated collections are usually preferred because, after you set up the conditions, future products are added automatically. You can save a lot of time by using automated collections if you have a large selection of products or if you have seasonal or rotating inventories. For example, suppose that you run an apparel store. If you tag all your products with a seasonal tag, such as summer or fall, then all your seasonal attire can automatically be included in the matching collection.

One drawback to creating an automated collection is that you can’t remove particular products from it unless you change the collection’s conditions or edit the product details so that they no longer match the conditions.

  • A manual collection includes only the products that you choose individually. Because of this, the collection always contains the same products unless you specifically add or remove products.

Manual collections take more work to maintain but can be a good choice for small or specialized collections that you intend to curate personally. For example, if you plan to hold a one-time flash sale of just a few products, then you can create a manual collection for them and set up a discount for just the products in that collection.

  1. You can set up your local delivery options to use a Delivery Radius option or a Postal code option meaning they can enter their address to see if postage will be allowed.
  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.

  2. In the Local delivery section, click Manage next to the location where you want to add conditional delivery rates. If you have several locations, then click Show more to display all of your locations.

  3. In the Delivery area section, click Create delivery zone.

  4. Enter a Zone name.

  5. Enter a Delivery radius or set of Postal codes.

  6. Optional: If you want to offer delivery only on orders over a certain price, then enter the amount in the Minimum order price section.

  7. Enter a delivery price. If you want to offer free delivery, then enter 0.

  8. Optional: In the Delivery information section, enter a message to customers with details of your local delivery services.

  9. Click Save.

  1. That is great to hear, have you done local delivery for a while or is this a first iteration of the idea?

  2. If you have a subscription app from the Shopify App Store installed in your Shopify admin, then you can manage your subscriptions in the Shopify admin. When a customer purchases a subscription from you, the information about the product, and the frequency of the subscription, becomes visible in your admin. To set up subscriptions, you need to complete the setup in the app that you install.

Customer payment information is stored securely by Shopify. You can’t access your customers’ full credit card information after it has been entered.

To learn more about setting up subscriptions and managing them from your admin, you can check out our guide here.

I hope that answers your questions. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Thanks @Rein for answering my questions! And apologies for getting back to you late.

  1. Rather than a collection, is there anyway to just add 2 products that can be rotated around? As its only ever going to be max 2 products and making a collection means customers will need to click an extra time before they get to the “weekly specials”

  2. Thats awesome thanks for that!

  3. Yes I’ve been delivering locally for a while but now need to streamline the process :slightly_smiling_face:

  4. Do you have any recommendations on which subscription services (free) would be good to use?

  5. I’ve also encountered another problem with the Crave theme and i"m hoping you can help (sorry!). The theme has the collapsible rows to be able to add in things such as “ingredients” but when I add the ingredients into one of the products, it is replicated across all the products (see screenshot)

I’ve also noticed that if I just another block to add what is inside the meal - it is also replicated. How do I make it so that I can edit the individual ingredients for each product?

And once again, thank you so much for your help.

Cheers,

Damian

Thanks for the follow-up, @dekiv , happy to help out with this.

  1. Taking a look at this, there really would not be a dedicated way through collections to accomplish this. I have seen other similar instances where stores make sure to feature these products in a banner ad on a carousel. Have you given either of these considerations? Although, I would highly advise taking a look at our demo store here. Perhaps there is some inspiration you can garner.

  2. You are very welcome!

  3. That is great to hear. Are you looking at any specific area of the process that you want to remedy/improve on? Do you find that Shopify helps in that regard?

  4. In terms of free subscription services, it is not likely to find something that is 100% free, but you could look into something like this app called Stickyio.

It does have a free plan that takes 1% of your sales for the first 180 days and thereafter applies a $20 a month price tag as well. However, what I would suggest is taking a look at the other available options on our app store here.

  1. I think this may be possible to do, however, it may require you to create multiple product templates. Can I ask how you are accomplishing this so far so I can suggest a slight change to the process to make this possible?

I would be looking to reference the solution found in this forum post here, which may help you out.

You are of course welcome, and I look forward to your reply so I can help out further!

Thanks @Rein for coming back to me.

  1. The Crave theme doesn’t have a carousel as part of the theme unfortunately  is there another way?

  2. Shopify I’m hoping will help as more orders are coming through and at times its hard to keep up with it all. I’m hoping by making the site and having the ordering process streamlined and payments made before, I can look to expand and take on more customers.

  3. Thanks for letting me know regarding the subscription, I will have a look and see what I can find!

  4. I’ve actually managed to fix this by incorporating metafields :slightly_smiling_face:

And forgot to ask @Rein one more thing - is there a way of setting minimum orders on a specific product? Some of my meals are family meals and would require a minimum order of 4.
