Hi, I am the founder of GuardianStack, a compliance tool for UK Shopify stores. We are currently in Beta and would love to get your feedback on our app.
Some context first: I have worked with small businesses and SMEs and something I keep seeing - store owners (big and small) are steeped in the daily day to day rigmarole , juggling supply chains, vendors, marketing, growth but compliance is the thing that gets handled once and forgotten. You install a cookie banner, maybe sort our your privacy policy and move on what actually grows the business. Fair enough.
However, the problem, is compliance doesn’t stay fixed. Your theme updates and breaks your cookie banner. An app starts collecting data you didn’t realise. Most people don’t realise their ICO registration has lapsed as nobody set a reminder. Did you know there are ~28 to 55 events a year that can shift your compliance posture without you doing anything wrong. This is further exacerbated by the tech onslaught.
Most stores know they need a cookie banner - and that’s a good start. But thats only one of roughly 9 obligations the ICO (Information Commissioners Office) actually enforces. ICO, email authentication, a privacy policy that matches your store actually collects, data subject access rights, proper data retention - these all sit alongside cookies and most store owners might not be aware they are responsible for them. The common theme is this - make sure your customers data is collected fairly, stored fairly and not held longer than needed.
Thats the gap i am trying to close. I have built something that sits inside your shopify admin, scans across all these areas and walks you through fixing each issue in plain English - with real ICO enforcement cases behind each finding so you can see clearly why it matters.
