Filling your Holiday orders? Warning! Export of Orders not Accurate

We stumbled upon the fact that when we export orders from Shopify, the export includes items that were returned/refunded without any indication that they were returned/refunded. For example: an order was placed for 4 items, customer requested to return 2 of them, export only shows that 4 of the item was ordered (no indication of the 2 returned or that the order is now actually only for 2 of the item). Likewise, an order was placed for the Medium variant of an item…customer requests to exchange medium for large…export of the order shows both 1 of the medium and 1 of large (with no indication that the medium was returned and the order is actually for just 1 of the large).

Chatting with Shopify Support and they admit it’s a known issue…and there’s no ETA for a fix. They recommend purchasing an app…which they can provide no support for and cannot promise that it will work correctly anyway since Shopify can’t export it’s own data accurately in the first place.

At the very very very least, wish Shopify had notified of us of this “known issue” rather than left us to discover it…the week of Christmas (busiest commerce week of the year in USA).

It’s been two years and this still isn’t fixed! @Shopify_77 …we can’t even get an accurate export of our orders. What gives?

I’ve been searching around for this. An item purchased on Dec 6th was subsequently returned on Dec 23rd in exchange for a higher priced item and the customer paid the difference. Amount actually received by our bank account is correct. Great right? Nope. When I download the orders report it shows the amount of the original sale (the returned/exchanged item) in the outstanding balance–tax included. WHY?!?? This makes any real outstanding balances look wrong, or at least I cannot trust the sum of that column. And here it is detailed, in a post over 4 years old?!? WTAF!

It’s true…4+ years and counting: shopify can’t even deliver an export with accurate data.

We’ve moved a lot of our online sales to Squarspace – it’s not perfect, but it’s a LOT better and a LOT cheaper.
