First page is not homepage but homepage can still be accessible

Good day.

I am planning a sale event on my website.

Ideally, temporarily, it would be great to turn the homepage into a sales page (website.com/sale). Still, if the customer clicks on (website.com), she would be redirected to the regular homepage she is familiar with.

Has anyone been able to achieve this? If yes, what did you need to do? If no, what did you do as an alternative?

I plan to duplicate the theme, change the homepage to the sales page, change the menu, keep this for the sales period, and switch back to the regular theme after. Not sure if this is the best way to do it.

Duplicate the theme and adding section or customizing the homepage is the best option because I found that functionality is not available, like how in Wordpress and magento, which give us to select a template to make homepage.
