Shopify should let merchants choose how shipping labels are billed: either pay for each label immediately when it’s purchased or allow charges to build up until the billing threshold is reached. Holding postage charges and then taking a large lump sum can seriously hurt small businesses’ cash flow. Merchants should control when the money leaves their account, rather than being forced into threshold billing.
Hey @KAS21, you can already do this today. Label charges accrue toward your billing threshold, and that threshold is just the ceiling that triggers an automatic charge, so you can settle the balance early yourself: Settings > Billing > Bills, then Pay now on the outstanding shipping amount whenever you want the money to leave. Shopify also lets you keep buying labels up to 110% of the threshold while a charge clears, and in a cycle that never hits it the labels roll onto your monthly subscription bill. Buy a batch of labels, then open Bills a few minutes later - the balance should be sitting there and payable straight away.
Another option is to separate shipping label billing from Shopify entirely.
With an external shipping platform, Shopify orders can still be imported automatically, but the labels are created and billed outside Shopify Shipping. External solutions allow to select payment options as you need… so you can keep Shopify for your orders while managing shipping and billing separately.
