So since a few days ago I’m getting 1-2 high fraud orders per day. They all look the same:
Above 100$ of products
4-5 different products added
Email and Phone are not existent
Paid by card.
I don’t get what is going on and why people do it. They maybe try to get the products and do a chargeback to get the money back ? It’s super weird.
It’s annoying cause for some reasons shopify payments does not refund me the commissions on the orders that I cancel, so I lose 5-10$ for each high risk order that I have to cancel.
Does anyone have any solution for it ? It looks like a bot or something similar.
Card testing and theft is common upon eCommerce industries among bad-actors.
If you have a low volume orders, you might want to using manual payment capture so that you can review all payments before being captured. By doing this, you can void the payment and not incur fees. However, you your store order volume, is quite high, then you need to automate this using a third party app like Beacon (see link below).
Another solution, if you think your site is being attacked by bots is for you to download Shopify’s fraud filter app, and add the IP address to it so that the system will cancel the order.
You can use the built in fraud prevention app on Shopify. It can automatically cancel certain orders if possible frauds are detected. You can set a variety of custom filters to add extra protection to your store.
If you feel this default app is not enough for your business needs, you may consider to install this additional third party fraud app as it will perform a comprehensive checking on your orders and let you customize your own fraud validation rules.
