I’m currently offering a free gift with selected items. However, I had to create a product page for the free gift, which makes it visible on the website—and customers can add it to their cart even without purchasing the qualifying item.
I’m looking for a solution where the free gift is not visible on the website and cannot be added to the cart independently.
Would the “Buy X, Get Y” promotion feature work for this purpose?

Although Shopify native discount and other standard gift apps haven’t supported this advanced feature yet, you can easily do it with the BOGOS app.

Here are the setup steps:
Step 1: Shopify admin > Navigate to “Products” > Change your gift’s status to “draft” instead of active
Step 2: Set up any gift offer types you want & select that draft gift.

You can set up the free gift easily with Monk from the Shopify App Store. I’m with the Monk team, and here’s how you can replicate that on your store.
Monk includes a smart feature that automatically removes the free gift if the qualifying conditions are no longer met.
For instance, if the gift is triggered when the cart value exceeds $100 and a customer removes an item worth $20, bringing the total below the threshold, Monk will automatically remove the gift from the cart.
Similarly, when the cart is empty, the condition no longer applies, so the gift cannot remain in the cart.
You can also customize the feature to suit your requirements.
To prevent visibility, you can unlist the free gift product from your Shopify admin so it doesn’t appear on the storefront.
However, If the gift item is still visible on your store, and was added by a customer to their cart, Monk will also automatically remove it from the cart to prevent customers from checking out with it unintentionally.
