is it ok to give my store log-in information to a freelancer to finish setting up my store?
Topic summary
A store owner asks whether it’s safe to share login credentials with a freelancer hired to complete store setup.
Recommended Solution:
- Use Shopify’s collaborator account feature instead of sharing passwords
- Freelancers/developers can request access through their partner dashboard
- This allows limiting what the freelancer can access without exposing login details
- Reference: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/staff-accounts/collaborator-accounts
Complication:
- The store owner notes their basic plan doesn’t include staff accounts
- The discussion remains open regarding alternative solutions for basic plan users
Hi Shiva,
You do not need to give log in credentials to a freelancer. There is an option for developers/partners to request access to a store via their partner dashboard: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/staff-accounts/collaborator-accounts
With collaborator accounts, you can also limit what the freelancer will be able to access, if you need. I would not advise giving anyone your password, login details, etc.
Well, basic plan doesn’t come with a staff account. What should I do?
