Hi all.
GA4 seems to be massively over reporting revenue and units compared to my Shopify reports and I’m not sure why. It appears to be roughly double accounting sales, with any small variances assumed to be due to differences in reporting cut offs.
Analytics is correctly set up via the sales channel app, so what I’m wondering is if there is an issue with the tag manager snippet in the code, i have included below the relevant section of the theme.liquid.
Any help on this would be gratefully received as I am a bit out of my depth with the code side of things.
Thanks

It’s because one of your tags is double tracking. Make sure GA4 is installed only one.
Also I see you have two GA4 properties.
In the screenshot below you can see the page view is triggered twice, this is caused by double tags.
Hi Emmanuel,
Thanks for your reply, are you able to suggest anything to correct this as I can’t see anything in the theme code that looks wrong?
You need to check your apps, and or GTM for potential double tracking. You might also have overlooked a code in the theme.
Hi David,
we have about the same problem with one of our shops. With the help of Google Technical Service we checked our implementation of GA4 and registered - after 07/01 - a x4 overreporting of conversions (purchase) in GA4. Shopify and Google Ads didn´t show overreporting. So we analyzed our accounts with following results:
- Shopify shows no external Google code neither GA4 nor UA
- there is a valid connection between Shopify - GA4 - Merchant center - Ads (data transfer ok)
- checking the website with GA Debug in Chrome shows double tagging with GA and UA
Your Website shows exactly the same symptoms like ours while running the tests:
We don´t have a solution yet, but I´ll keep you updated. Google technical is at work…
Cheers Stefan
