Has shopify ever done retail? This is extremely frustrating. Has anyone used LightSpeed in the past? What are your thoughts? We are starting to do due diligence and switch POS. It feels like Shopify has no idea how to do brick and mortar POS. It would be nice if they talked to people like us who actually use it.
Topic summary
Shopify removed the price override feature from its POS system without providing an immediate replacement, causing significant frustration among retail users who relied on it daily.
Key Issues:
- Employees now need calculators to handle price discrepancies or sale items
- The removal happened mid-operation for some stores (described as “sunset”)
- Shopify announced “new functionalities coming soon” but provided no timeline
- The suggested alternative (Custom Sale) doesn’t work properly for accounting purposes due to missing item type/category options
User Response:
- Multiple merchants express anger at the lack of consultation before removing a core feature
- Common complaint: Shopify developers appear unfamiliar with actual retail operations
- Tax calculations make manual discounting particularly difficult
- Some users report moderators incorrectly marking posts as “Accepted Solution”
Alternatives Being Explored:
- Third-party app available ($12/month) with price override in beta
- Several users considering switching to Lightspeed POS
- Fynd Store OS mentioned as another option
Status: Unresolved. Users await Shopify’s replacement feature while seeking workarounds or alternative POS systems.
