Getting Started with Google Ads

Similar to several other requests, please provide key do’s and don’ts for using Google Ads for a startup store. THX

Hello NatureMatters, thank you for your question in the FeedArmy AMA Event.

The do’s and don’ts depend on what your business is. For example, if you are a reseller of a brand.

Avoid targeting generic and relevant search terms.

Instead, focus on targeting brand names. You can do this by setting up an advanced standard shopping campaign strategy explained here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiRIDzRrHno

If you are a retailer and you are the brand owner, then brand awareness is also very important, but a big money pit. So focus on relevant search terms using text advertising to bring awareness. Along side your other campaigns.

As a startup, money is a big investment, so control is important, start by using more manually controlled campaigns, or if you do want to use PMax, use PMax without assets, so that you can focus on shopping + display ads only.

And it all depends on your methodology, I manage accounts to be a bit more on the careful side because small businesses can’t afford to waste money. So my campaign setups will generally be PMax no ad assets, and campaigns that are more targeting branded terms for resellers, and for brand owners, abit of both relevant and branded targeting.

Also make sure to focus on yout data feed improvements, many merchants don’t do this. They just upload the feed and that is it.

But there are many do’s and don’ts as the topic is huge.
