I create 3D Logo Gif’s for my clients and have noticed since the last shopify update, the GIF’s have been lagging on mobile devices.
It looks normal using desktop, but these days the majority of internet users are surfing the web on their smart phones. So this is a huge issue for me and my clients.
Has anyone experienced this problem and found a solution to it? Ive tried to compress the files as well as reduce the frame rates. I’ve seen no success with either or, I would appreciate some expert help! Thank you
I was able to reproduce the described issue locally.
However, this issue seems to affect Safari only. With Google Chrome (Android mobile + on desktop) and Firefox (Android mobile + on desktop) the animation plays just fine. Can you confirm that this issue only affects the Safari web browser?

I have not tried a non apple mobile device but yes so far this is only happening on mobile. Let me know if you ever find a solution, I will let you know as well!
I’ve tried on mobile chrome as well and it does the same as safari, i’m using an iPhone 12 Pro model. I have not checked android mobile yet, so far i’ve only gotten complaints of this issue from clients with Apple iPhones.
We identified and resolved an issue which could cause glitches/artifacts on animated images with an alpha channel (transparency) on the following devices:
iPhone iOS >= 14 (Safari and Chrome browser)
Safari > 14 on macOS
