Gift Card Redemption Issue on Mobile

store/product description

On mobile version - customers are having difficulty locating the gift card section. It is hidden under a drop arrow. The navigation only says “discount code” It should also say “gift Card” for people to click on it.

What feedback do you want?

Can you please add “gift card” to the navigatin prompt? Or make it more visible to customers. Customers using a gift card are often new so aren’t familiar with what sections to press on to open up more information.

Go to Online Store - Theme - Three Dots - Edit default theme content

search “Add discount” - Put whatever you want. May vary from theme to theme, but this is something that merchants struggle with because they don’t know about it.

Go through this Default theme content. You may find it very useful…

Yeah that drop arrow on mobile is Shopify’s default. The discount / gift card field sits inside the order summary until someone taps to expand it.

You can force it open: Settings > Checkout > edit the checkout configuration > Order summary > turn on Always show discount code field. Shopify’s docs say that toggle only shows if you are on the three-page checkout layout. https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/checkout-settings/customize-checkout-configurations/checkout-style

For the wording, Maximus3 is right. I would also search gift card and Discount code or gift card in Edit default theme content, or Settings > Checkout > Edit checkout content, and change the label so it actually says gift card, not only discount code. https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/checkout-settings/checkout-language

Keep in mind that people redeeming a gift card are usually first-timers who have never seen your checkout.

The gift card notification email is editable under Settings then Notifications, and it’s the thing they’ll have open in front of them when they go to spend it.

A single line in there telling them to tap Add discount code or gift card in the order summary does more work than the label change, because they read it before they get stuck rather than after.

Hey @Megan56, you can change that label yourself in about a minute, it’s editable theme text rather than something Shopify has to update. The checkout wording lives in Online Store > Themes > the “…” menu next to your live theme > Edit default theme content, then the Checkout & system tab. Search “Discount”, set the label to “Discount code or gift card”, and save. On mobile that field sits inside the collapsed order summary, so the label is the only clue a first-time gift card recipient gets. Reload checkout on your phone, tap the order summary open, and confirm the new wording shows.
