I run a photo training course, which is currently set up as a product. I would like to send an automated gift voucher to the client when they place an order. How is best to do this ?

BOGOS Free gifts, Discount & Bundles app can help you create exactly what you need. Here is the flow: when customers purchase the photo training course, they will have a gift card/gift voucher etc automatically added to their carts. Then they can proceed to checkout with this gift.

What is more, if a Gift card is selected as gift, make sure to turn on Draft-Order API in BOGOS’ settings. This is to ensure the gift card will be sent to your customers.

Yu do not really need an app for this, and pay for the app monthly.
Gift card product is a Shopify out of the box solution, apps are really not needed.
You can simply set up a product as a Gift card product .
Then be sure that you have a template for gift card with required fields (you can hide the form and option send to friend easily if you have a developer) and then just make it send to a customer that purchased it.
After buying the Gift Card, email will be sent to the customer automatically.
