"Give consent to continue test" button not working when setting up customer events pixel for Meta

I have been pulling my hair out for 3 days trying to get the meta pixel to work on my store.

The meta app doesn’t work on the checkout page - only reads “pageview” conversion events and not purchase events. The pixel isn’t anywhere to be found on the checkout page. My theory and support’s theory is that because it’s a digital product I’m selling, the meta app won’t work because facebook and instagram shops can’t sell digital products.

Because of this, I’ve tried to set up the pixel manually about 7 times, 4 or 5 different ways. The most recent way is in “customer events”, I copy / paste the correct code (excluding all html), and the connection works! When I go to test the pixel, the Pixel is awating consent and the “give consent to continue test” button will not work.

I have tried resetting all my cookies, clearing cache and data in my browser, and changing the “customer privacy” section of shopify’s settings to allow this and nothing has worked.

Please help - support was with me for hours and nothing has helped so far.

You’re correct, the official app from Meta can be limited for digital products, especially when it comes to the checkout page because of the restrictions of Shopify on non-Plus merchants. Your product being digital doesn’t qualify for support on Facebook Shops which can affect your event tracking. Manual pixel configuration through “Customer Events” is indeed the work around, however if the testing tool is showing “Awaiting consent” then, it is because the privacy settings of Shopify or the consent banner is not firing. Try to test on a private or incognito browser and check that a GDPR region is not restricting consent. If possible, use Shopify’s checkout extensibility or a third-party app with deeper pixel integration.
