Google Ads data not syncing with Shopify dashboard

Hi,

I created a Sales Search in Google Ads through Shopify (Marketing → Create campaign → Google Ads). The integration is active, and auto-tagging is enabled in Google Ads.

But my Shopify dashboard has been stuck at 12 clicks for over a week, while Google Ads shows 300+ clicks and 4 conversions.

What I’ve checked:

  • Auto-tagging (gclid) is working.

  • Campaign and ads are running fine in Google Ads.

  • The tracking link: {lpurl}?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign={campaignname}&utm_term={keyword}&utm_content={adgroupid}_{creative}

    Has been added to the ad group and campaign level as well in Google ads

  • My final URLs go to product/collection pages, not just the homepage.

Still, Shopify isn’t updating any new data.

What could be the reason for the metrics not being captured in Shopify? How do I fix this, please?

Thanks for any help!

Hey there,

So this is what could be happening.

  1. Google Ads counts every click on your ads.
  2. Shopify only counts clicks that actually load your store with valid tracking parameters.
    If users’ browsers block cookies, strip URL parameters, or load cached pages, Shopify won’t record the visit, even though Google Ads does.

You mentioned your final URLs have this:

{lpurl}?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign={campaignname}&utm_term={keyword}&utm_content={adgroupid}_{creative}

But since Shopify’s Google & YouTube app already auto-adds its own UTM parameters, this double-tagging can break the connection.

Shopify’s built-in Google Ads dashboard only syncs clicks and conversions that pass through its integration pixel (from the “Google & YouTube” app).

If your Google Ads pixel or conversion tracking was added manually or through GTM, Shopify won’t read those results.

How to Fix It

  1. Keep only the Google & YouTube app connection (disable GTM or manual GA4 tags for conversions).

  2. Ensure your auto-tagging (gclid) is on and your final URLs don’t have extra UTMs.

  3. Wait 24–48 hours, Shopify’s reporting lags behind Google Ads.

  4. If still stuck, disconnect and reconnect the Google & YouTube app → it forces a new data sync.

I would also recommend using a dedicated Google Conversion Pixel app for this. It is much more reliable and does not usually face any problems. Let me know if you want a recommendation :slight_smile:

We have checked for extra tags using the Google Tag Assistant extension. We haven’t added any tags manually, so why is this issue arising?

We have also done this: disconnect and reconnect the Google & YouTube app.
