Google & Bing Merchant Center Data Attributes

Topic summary

Question: Use existing Shopify custom metafields (e.g., gender, age, color) created for Google Merchant Center to automatically populate equivalent fields for Bing Merchant Center, avoiding duplicate entry.

Current insights:

  • Mapping custom metafields is believed to be possible, but exact native steps (especially via Shopify’s Google & YouTube app) are unclear.
  • A workaround is to use the “Multiple Google Shopping Feeds” app, which provides an easier UI to map custom metafields. This is reported as more straightforward than the native Google & YouTube app.

What’s confirmed vs. unclear:

  • Confirmed: Third-party app can map custom metafields for feeds with a clear UI.
  • Unclear: Whether there is a native, automatic method to reuse Google-targeted metafields directly for Bing within Shopify, and how to set it up without third-party tools.

Outcome/status:

  • No definitive native solution provided; recommendation is to consider the third-party app for mapping.
  • Discussion remains open pending a concrete method for native Bing field population.

Hello,

My Shopify site is connected to both Google and Bing’s merchant centers. I have custom meta fields for Google’s data attributes, such as gender, age, and color. Can we use what is entered in these fields to automatically populate the equivalent Bing fields instead of entering the same data again? They effectively use the same values.

I have heard long time ago it’s possible to map custom metafields, however, I have never really found out how it was done.

What I currently do is use: https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds and here you can easily map all custom metafields. Which is a lot easier as the UI shows you what to do. While the Google and Youtube app don’t really show how it’s done.
