Shopify store owners are encountering product disapprovals in Google Merchant Center due to “Unavailable mobile landing page (Crawl error: HTTP 5xx response)” errors, despite their product pages displaying correctly on both desktop and mobile devices.
Common Patterns:
Errors typically affect a small subset of products (around 5 per day for some users)
Pages appear functional when manually checked
Google Shopping ads get paused for affected products, impacting sales
Error messages sometimes show “hostname not resolvable”
Suggested Solutions:
Wait it out: Errors often auto-resolve within 2-3 days as Google recrawls pages
Contact Google Merchant support: One user reported permanent resolution after chatting with Google support, who acknowledged it as a crawler error and applied a manual fix
Check site speed: Slow loading times may contribute, though many affected stores have good speed scores (80+)
Monitor uptime: Use uptime monitoring tools to detect actual downtime
Current Status:
Issue appears to be primarily on Google’s crawler side rather than Shopify infrastructure
Moving DNS providers (e.g., from GoDaddy to Shopify) hasn’t consistently resolved the problem
Manual intervention by Google support seems most effective for persistent cases

Yesterday I checked my feed on Google Merchant and saw that some products were “Disapproved or invalid”. I click them and saw this announce: Unavailable mobile landing page (Crawl error: HTTP 5xx response)
If you have confirmed the pages are working correctly, without any errors. Then the issue in most cases can not be fixed as the issue will be related to maybe a temporary DNS issue, or slow loading, that caused Google’s bot not to be able to view the page.
In most cases after a few days, it will be recrawled and the issue disappears.
I am getting this issue routinely, about 5 products a day. I log into google merchant and do their “fix suggestion” which is basically resubmitting the link and after some hours it’s back to working. When this happens my Google shopping ads for the specific products are paused. This is affecting sales. Is there anyway to prevent this from happening? Is the DNS problem on Shopify’s side?
Looking at the Google page speed metrics, it doesn’t look like there is much I can do to improve the speed. Most of my issues seem related to shopify theme code cdn.shopify.com loading slowly. Any help will be appreciated.
I moved my domain to shopify, thinking it was my dns provider, and the errors continued. I contacted Google Merchant customer service and spoke to someone through chat. He said he “thought” it was a web crawler error and had made a fix. He was really vague and wouldn’t admit the issue was coming from google’s side but whatever he did worked. I’ve not had the problem since that conversation so it seems that the error is coming from the google crawler not correctly crawling the page even though it indicates it has. Looks like a manual fix on their end solves the issue and seems to be a known issue to them. Hope this helps you guys.
hi, just wondering if you have checked with shopify regarding the issue. I am constantly having the issue and this really tanks the sales. we have to check google merchant center a few times a day just to make sure all products are approved. to me it looks very buggy, coz all my webpage can be shown both in desktop and mobile view. thank you.
Generally it happens only to a small subset of products, if it happens a lot and to more than 10% of your products, then this is an issue on your website. Unfortunately I do not know how to fix this as it is related to DNS or website loading. If its website loading, make sure your website is fast enough.
Unfortunately i don’t know, because when I see this issue, I never make a change and it will always auto resolve. hence why I just leave it alone. But if you think it is a big issue, you will need to do some tests and check out what you need to do.
However in my opinion, it will be a waste of time. But that’s just my opinion.
I’m reaching out to you. I’m not sure if you will get a notification. But we are experiencing this exact problem especially with our ads. I’m assuming our page load speed is too slow which is why this is happening. Did you ever confirm the exact problem of this? It would be truly helpful. Thank you!
No never found out what the exact problem was but it hasn’t come back since. Not sure if you saw my message on the thread about talking to Google merchant customer service through chat…
