Google Merchant Center Migration to Merchant APIs from Content APIs

Morning all, I’ve received an email from Google Merchant Center about Content API feeds being switched off in August with the following implementation instruction link on Google: Migrate from Content API for Shopping to Merchant API  |  Google for Developers

I use Shopify’s Google & YouTube App to feed products from my store to Google Merchant Center and therefore can’t affect the changes required. I have read that Shopify / Google are unrolling the migration automatically over time to the new Merchant API but I can’t find any concrete evidence of this and want to make sure I have a resolution in place. I could go and subscribe to a third party feed app but the convenience of the app has been useful, albeit not the fastest, for some time so I am keen to know whether I should be panicked in to changing to a different solution or relying on the app to be updated?

I’ve reached out to Google’s Merchant support team also but just in case anyone else had come across this yet

Yes, what you’ve read is correct. Google has updated their help document here

Basically if you are using the default Google & YouTube app, you don’t need to do anything and the migration will happen automatically and the conversion history associated with the product IDs will not be impacted.

So, there is no need to panic and change to a different solution. It’s actually good news for us. We have a number of clients using this app as well and we have not made any changes to the app till now so it’s great this can stay the same.

Google and youtube app will indeed automatically migrate to the merchant API. You don’t need to do anything.

Hi there @willystewart7x
The Google & YouTube channel app is periodically updated to stay up to date with the evolving policies of Google Merchant Center, so you don’t have to switch solutions right now. I would recommend you to monitor the notification on your Merchant Center account and ensure that your product feed is active. If you want more control you can also look into feed mangement solutions which provide more customization options, albeit native integration should continue to be the best solution for most Shopify stores through this transitional period.
