Google Products on Google Shopping

Topic summary

Multiple merchants are experiencing Google Merchant Center account suspensions due to “misrepresentation” violations, with products being removed from Google Shopping shortly after initial approval.

Common Pattern:

  • Accounts get approved initially
  • Subsequently suspended for policy violations
  • Merchants unable to identify the specific cause
  • At least one user reports struggling with this issue for years without resolution

Recommended Solution:
One experienced contributor suggests the root cause is merchants setting up accounts without first ensuring their websites comply with Google’s policies. They recommend:

  • Thoroughly studying all Google Merchant Center policies before submitting product feeds
  • Reviewing multiple official Google support resources covering merchant guidelines, shopping ads policies, and compliance requirements

Status: The discussion remains open with no definitive resolution. The contributor notes Google is aware this is a widespread problem for new merchants but hasn’t implemented preventive measures like mandatory compliance checklists during account setup.

We managed to get our Merchant Account setup and all our products were initially approved but now the account has been suspended and products taken off Google Shopping due to “misrepresentation”. How do we ensure best practice as we cannot figure out what has caused this problem.

Same issue.

Hello Mpretail, thank you for your question. The common issue with new merchants is setting up a Google Merchant Center account without checking if the website is complaint, this is such a common issue, that I have talked about this many times with my Google contacts, and they all agree, but don’t want to implement a solution for new merchants.

For example, I would have a forced checklist for the basics before you can submit your feed, which alleviates most suspensions.

But the best practice is to study hard on all the policies, here is what I recommend you have a look at:
