In google search console I have a list of pages that says Crawled not currently indexed. When I open it and select one of the examples and inspect URL, under page indexing it says page is indexed.
So im confused, is it indexed or not?

From my understanding, this issue can be because you have the other canonical page instead of the current page which got already indexed and crawled. OR some pages might take some time which are actually indexable, you can submit it for validation and wait for the results.

This seems to be an error in reporting between the page indexing report and Google’s data.
Since the URL Inspection Tool states that it is indexed, the page is definitely indexed. Sometimes, even after a page has been indexed, it might take some time to show up in the page indexing report due to difference in refreshing rate.
URL inspection tool offers updated data and can be fully trusted. As a safety measure, I suggest you resubmit the pages for indexing and wait for a few days.

what does submitting for validation do though? i.e I havent changed anything?
Hi @Bhakti_Shah thank you - ok so I can trust that it’s been indexed, do I now just submit the page again for validation? i.e. im confused because ive got over 1 thousand pages and I dont know if I should be submitting all of them manually again, or only those ones I want to appear on my site (but yet possibly all of them could already be indexed?)

The status “Crawled - currently not indexed” in Google Search Console means that Google has crawled your page but has not added it to its search index (Google Search Index database). This status indicates that while Google knows your page exists, it hasn’t added it to its search index, so the page won’t appear in the search results.
However, if you inspect the URL and it says the page is indexed, it means that the page has been indexed since the last time Google Search Console updated its status.
It can take some time for the status in Google Search Console to update. Regularly monitor your indexing status and address any issues promptly to ensure your pages are indexed and visible in search results.

My suggestion would be to resubmit all the pages. Resubmitting them will ensure that it appears in Google search results. Even if you don’t submit certain pages for indexing, users who visit your website will still be able to see the pages (not on Google SERP, but on your website).
But I dont even know how all of the pages were picked up to begin with? Ie my sitemap still shows as success 0 discovered pages.
So google has picked these up on their own

Yeah its just strange that in the console itself its saying its not indexed but then you go in and says it is?
I dont even know how its pulling the pages in there if the sitemap is showing as 0 pages?
Google can crawl your website URL even if the sitemap is not yet submitted in Google Search Console or the pages are not included in your sitemap. Crawlers discover pages by following links, so if there are links to your site from other websites or if your site has internal links, Google can still find and crawl your pages. This might be confusing but actually, it is very simple. The URL inspection tool always shows accurate results. If you inspect the URL and it says “page is indexed”, the result is correct.
Try updating the sitemap and resubmitting it to the Google Search Console and it will update the crawled status in time.
