Google Search Console told me that homepage is a 'Page with redirect'

Hey all,

We’ve been focusing on improving our SEO and just realized we’re not ranking for power adapter manufacturer keywords. After investigating, we found out our site isn’t indexed.

Google Search Console recently crawled the website and is showing a “Page with redirect” message. As far as we know, there shouldn’t be any redirects in place.

Is there a way to check for and fix this issue? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey @ousm , you must be frustrated. But don’t worry. Simply follow these steps and you’ll surely fix this issue. The first step is to…

1. Check Google Search Console:

  • Go to your Google Search Console account.
  • Navigate to Index > Pages.
  • Look for the “Page with redirect” status to identify which pages are affected.

2. URLs Inspection:

  • Use the URL Inspection Tool in GSC and get detailed information on the affected URLs.
  • Check the discovery section, user-declared canonical, and referring pages to understand why the redirect is happening.

3. Check Redirect Types:

  • Determine if the redirects are 301 (permanent) or 302 (temporary). You can use tools like Redirect Checker, WhatsMyDNS Redirect Checker, or you can check the HTTP status directly.
  • Ensure that there are no unnecessary redirects in your .htaccess file, server configuration, or CMS settings.

4. Fix Faulty Redirects:

  • If you find any incorrect redirects, either update or remove them. Make sure your homepage and other important pages are not being redirected unnecessarily.
  • Ensure that your URLs are consistent and correct throughout your website, sitemap, and redirects.

5. Indexing Request:

  • Once you’ve fixed the redirects, use the Inspection Tool to request indexing for the corrected URLs.
  • Monitor GSC to ensure that the changes are reflected and that the “Page with redirect” issue is resolved.

Sometimes, redirects can be caused by minor issues like missing trailing slashes or case sensitivity in URLs. So, ensure your URLs are standardized. If you’re using a CMS like WordPress, plugins like Redirection can help you manage and monitor redirects easily.

For redirection in WordPress you can use plugins like " 301 redirects " & " redirection " Sources: https://wordpress.org/plugins/eps-301-redirects/ & https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/
