Google SEO issue: Crawled - currently not indexed for localised collections and product pages

Hi all,

I have an issue with page indexing in google search console. Other than other general indexing errors, the main one is “Crawled - currently not indexed”, and it appears to affect localised collections and product pages (for instance /en-gb or /es-us…).

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!!

Hi @FiloPietra1 ,

This is Victor from PageFly - Shopify Page Builder App.

To the best of my knowledge, ‘crawl - currently not indexed’ means Google already visited your page, spent time on it, and decided not to index the page. It may or may not be indexed in the future; no need to resubmit this URL for crawling (according to Google’s official documentation)

The reason may vary so I highly recommend you to check the Coverage report in Google Search console > Click on the error > Click on one of the (page) Examples and Inspect URL and read the detailed report to find the reason, hence, find a solution for it.

Here is a screenshot for you to refer

In your case, I think it could be due to the ‘duplicate’ issue. Google may find your localized collection & product pages are too similar to other pages on the same site, so it excludes those pages from indexing.

You may try to add unique elements to duplicate the content on these pages, rewrite the content on those pages, and check again.

I hope this information can help!

Best regards,

Victor from PageFly

Hello @FiloPietra1 ,

Gina here from flareAI - your Fully Automated Free Sales Machine. Hope you are doing good! I am happy to share some suggestions for your query.

Please consider liking and accepting the solution if it helps.

Crawled – currently not indexed means that Googlebot visited a given page but didn’t index it. As a consequence, the page won’t appear in Google Search. Ensure your page provides high-quality content.

The most common cause for this error is that Google simply didn’t think that your content was valuable enough to index. This means that you may need to add more unique content, add internal links or check for duplicate content, etc.

Please see this Google documentation for more information.

You will get organic orders only if your products are indexed on Google. Hi Victor,

Thanks for your reply!

However, those are localized product pages so, other than a different language, all content must be the same, otherwise it would be another unrelated page. Google does not offer support from the search console dashboard for some reason, so it’s getting quite difficult to solve this one. Shopify’s support indicated that I could resubmit the sitemap, but I don’t think that would change anything…

Hi @FiloPietra1 ,

It’s a bit technical but you can try 3 methods below to tell Google about your localised page. You can check Google Document about that:

Hi,

Thanks for that input. I have generated all the hreflang HTML tags + XML attributes for the sitemap but struggling to understand how to implement them. I have reached out to Shopify but their support is very limited on this (plus, there’s no possibility to edit the sitemap…).

In the meantime, I have posted on google search console’s community forum to understand the next steps: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/189832800?hl=en

Will post here the solution as soon as I get it, as I believe would benefit all Shopify merchants.

Thanks!

Hi,

Did you manage to find a solution?

I changed my theme and primary language from english to my local language, as everything was ranking in my local language anyways. Google decided to all deindex all my pages and add them to “Crawled - Currently Not Indexed”. Yikes.

Hi,

The same issues i faced for my http://voltagelab.com/ sites.

To address the issue of a page being “crawled but currently not indexed” in Google Search Console, you can follow these steps:

  1. Improve Content Quality:
    • Ensure your content is high-quality, unique, and provides value to users. It should satisfy user intent and be relevant to your audience.
  2. Perform Manual Indexing Review:
    • Perhaps your page has been indexed in the past, but Google has removed it now. If that’s the case, review the affected pages individually, and you’ll likely find the cause.
  3. Optimize Website Architecture and Use Internal Links:
    • Ensure your website has a clear structure with proper navigation, as poor architecture can affect indexing. Link to the content from important pages on your site to signal to Google that the content is valuable.
  4. Get Rid of Duplicates:
    • Google hates duplicate content. If your website suffers from it, make sure you remove or optimize it.
  5. Request Re-indexing:
    • Use the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to request a re-crawl of the page.
  6. Use a Temporary Sitemap or Validate URLs:
    • Consider creating a temporary sitemap with the URLs that are not indexed and submit it to Google Search Console. You can also request validation of “Crawled – currently not indexed” report.
