we are using the Google & Youtube App. Lately we completely switched everything to GA4. We used the Google App alreday before and had for some time running along with the UA set up that was (or still is) available in the shoppify back end. Our Google Analytics and our Google Ads account are set up correctly.
Since all theses changes we noticed, that in our Google Ads conversions tracking (we use: Google Shopping App purchase) as primary, the conversions that are made through ads are not tracked anymore. The primary tracker recognizes the activity, but does not recognize the conversion.
Any ideas why or from where this is coming from?
We thought maybe completely reinstalling the google app for shopify anew might help here because of all the changes that have been made in terms of switching from UA to GA4 broke something.
@SlowGoods this has happened a few times when replying to the community, while I did not have an answer then, connecting and disconnecting to Google Ads from within the google shopping app, seemed to work.
alright, did that, but unfortunately now there is no option from within the google & youtube app to re-connect. it just disappeared. any thought where I can re-connect the ads connection from within the google app. or do I need to do that in some other place? thanks for your support in this matter!
Hey, no not really. We reconnected some stuff over again, but the monitoring of the conversions via Google App have a huge discrepancy compared to the regular GA4 purchase event that we have running along side as a secondary measurement method. Some one mentioned to install server sider tracking.
Yes, I have also had this problem. Still not fixed, Shopify will tell you that Google now manage the Google/Youtube channel and Google’s tag team will have no idea and tell you contact Shopify. I definitely agree that the update to GA4 broke something and I would think with the sun-setting of UA that more and more people will start to have this issue.
We are having this issue with Shop.App because the app has its own thank you page and they are not landing on the tracked thankyou page on our domain. So if customers convert on shop.pay or meta the conversions are not tracked in GA4. Does anyone have a fix for this?
Just read over the topic here as we are also having issues and we didn’t even switch to GA4 measurement yet
We have issues since this new Conversion Tracking option was added from Shopify’s side. As we already had purchase tracking set it started to record more conversions than it was actually making.
I did contact both Shopify and Google and as someone already mentioned they just throw the support in between eachother and no actual help is provided.
I removed in the end the Shopping App Purchase event as it looked like its duplicating the conversions but now it became even worse and I am at a loss what to do.
Did anyone encountered this and any ideas how to solve it?

Same issue here. Since installing the Google & YouTube Sales Channel, conversions only get recorded around 10% of the time..
Funny enough, Google Analytics is recording my conversions and although linked with my Google ads account, it doesn’t seem to transfer this conversion data over?
I have tried re-installing, linking / unlinking both ad and analytic accounts but still no luck.
My advice to you is not to use native GA4 and the same with Ads conversion tracking, it’s awful and we are struggling for a month with the huge differences between Shopify Admin and GA4.
Our method based on manual implementation with dataLayer and GTM , discrepancy up to 20 - 30 % and we can’t understand what the reason. We observe page_view events of the thank you pages but no purchase events at the same time on those pages. Paradox.
Before the April 2023 average discrepancy was 5-10 %. When we tried that native connector - discrepancy was up to 50 %.
First reason can be that Shopify has implemented some changes couple months ago with the order status page.
It could be the change in the schema of {{ if first_time accessed }} variable as we use it on the order status page .
I found that quite often stores from EU zone are affected significantly than those from Australia or US. Maybe it’s connected with GDPR regulations. Although we have some stores where no cookie policy banner even implemented.
