Google Shopping Feed Cleanup

Shopify merchants running Google Shopping or Performance Max:

How often do you check Merchant Center diagnostics?

Have you ever discovered products that were:

  • disapproved

  • missing required attributes

  • losing impressions because of feed issues

Do you monitor this regularly, or mostly trust the Shopify Google channel to keep everything healthy?

Curious how others handle feed maintenance.

hey.

i do check the “Needs attention” tab regularly in merchant center.

apart from that, the nabu for google shopping feed shopify app that i use for optimizing and syncing my shopify products to merchant center also keeps me notified of feed or account-level errors.

so, yeah, both methods work well for me (manual checks for automated audits via the tool)

Checking a GMC from a managing perspective once a week.

Of course, disapprovals happen often, for random reasons.

I fix and improve data on a weekly basis. Google merchant center is not a setup and forget.

Hi,

I check Merchant Center diagnostics at least once or twice a week, and more frequently when launching new products or making feed changes. I’ve definitely found issues such as missing GTINs, incomplete product attributes, and occasional disapprovals that weren’t obvious from Shopify alone. I’ve also seen products lose visibility because of feed quality warnings that didn’t immediately surface in the storefront. In my experience, the Shopify Google channel does a good job handling the basics, but I wouldn’t rely on it exclusively. Regular checks in Merchant Center are still important to catch issues before they impact impressions and performance.

One simple cleanup step is to check product image data along with titles and descriptions. For Shopify products, you can export the product CSV and review fields like Image Src and Image Alt Text.

Blank image alt text can make product images harder to understand for search engines and accessibility tools. I would also check that product titles, variants, image filenames, and descriptions are consistent before resubmitting or updating feeds.

Before importing changes back into Shopify, keep a backup of the original CSV.

Hello, @Anastasiia4
Hope you are doing great,
Personally i check merchant center regularly. Bcz

  1. Product can silently get disapproved without obvious alert
  2. Feed errors can reduce impression
  3. Performance drops are often noticed to late
Due to these all reason i suggest you to check google merchant center regularly

I’d add one thing to the good advice above: feed diagnostics only show half the picture. Most of the painful surprises (account-level suspensions, misrepresentation flags) never show up as product errors — Google evaluates the storefront itself, not just the feed.

So my weekly routine is two layers:

  1. The Needs Attention tab for feed/attribute errors — what everyone here already does.
  2. A quick storefront sanity check: feed price vs page price (currency and discount apps quietly break this), availability in the feed vs what the page actually shows (Google’s March 2026 update now requires a visibly disabled buy button for out-of-stock items), and policy/contact links still resolving after theme changes.

Product disapprovals are annoying but recoverable. Account-level flags can take weeks of appeals with limited attempts, so catching storefront drift early is the higher-value check in my experience.

I thinks its better to run a manual scan every week for your store. But the issue is if the products count is huge then it will be difficult.

Last time when my store had the same issue i.e. https://mobilecasez.com I did a lot of research and it took me 1 month to unblock my account.

Then I decided to build an app using all of my research that help to remove block as well as do a weekly scan to protect your store from getting blocked.

Hey @Anastasiia4 . Hope you are doing great.

To be fair with you, don’t trust Shopify’s Google channel to catch everything, check it weekly.

Missing GITNS and price mismatches can silently kill your ads without any alerts.

Hello there again @Anastasiia4
We tend to look at Merchant Center diagnostics a few times a week, particularly after catalog updates. We don’t 100% rely on the Shopify google channel and we always double check in merchant center because issues can lag behind sync. Disapprovals and missing atributes are most commonly detected during scheduled reviews or post feed updates. A realistic approach is to use a dedicated feed management solution or a scheduled custom product feed with rule based attribute mapping and thus prevent facing these issues prior to submission. We also have internal alerts for sudden impression drops associated with feed alterations.
