Google Shopping - How to Remove Quick Checkout Button

I’m desperate for help! Does anyone know how to REMOVE the ‘Quick Checkout’ button on the Google Shopping product listings. This is on the Google side, not the Shopify ‘Express Checkout’. I am 99% sure that there is no way to change this through Shopify directly.

Google support is absolutely WORTHLESS. It makes Amazon chat look like a gem. They keep telling me to change things on Shopify that don’t exist. It has been almost two weeks and they are getting even dumber.

I can tell that other Shopify stores have the same settings as me on the Shopify side, and yet THEY don’t have the ‘Quick Checkout’ button on their Google Shopping product listings.

I need customers to visit my cart page first due to specific coding and options. The Google ‘Quick Checkout’ button sends them straight to the checkout page and skips the cart.

I do NOT have the ‘checkout on Google’ option turned on.

I’ve looked EVERYWHERE in both Google Merchant and Shopify and I cannot find the solution… seems really stupid that it isn’t an OBVIOUS option in merchant.

It sounds like you are using Buy on Google in Google Merchant Center, which is the quick checkout button on Google Shopping listings.

Go to Google Merchant Center > products > feeds > click on your feed > uncheck buy on google in the settings.

Then reprocess the feed, using: https://feedarmy.com/kb/how-to-reprocess-content-api-in-google-merchant-center/

@EmmanuelFlossie

The feed is a ‘Content API’ from Shopify, but there is no ‘buy on google’ checkout option when I click on it. It just takes the ‘feed rules’ from Shopify. But I had turned the ‘buy on google’ off on the Shopify side. Google’s team also confirmed that wasn’t on.

If you could screenshot the settings, which should show the buy on google option if it was enabled.

I recommend if you see the shopping listing again, take a screenshot, so I can see what you see.

@EmmanuelFlossie The screenshots in my last message are the only settings it is giving me when I click on the feed like you mentioned.

When I click on ‘Content API’ under the top right ‘Settings’ it shows me this information. Not sure what this means.

This is how it is showing on my google listings on the front end if that is what you are asking.

Oh also, it doesn’t let them checkout on Google with the ‘quick checkout’ button. It sends them straight to my Shopify checkout page and skips the cart page. Which I have to have people go to first.

After searching around quick checkout, this seems to be a new feature Google is testing out, and there is no option to opt out.

The only reference on Google’s official docs is here: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/6276171?hl=en

As this relates to something else, I assume quick checkout is in beta, and I don’t think you can opt out.

I started using google shopping last week and I am having the same issue, and the support gets back with me every 48 hours with another worthless response. I’m fairly technically adept and normally never contact support, but I’m fairly confident that it can’t be removed by the end user. I was hoping they had someway to opt me out on their end. Seems like a major oversight for customized products. It looks like it only affects free listings and isn’t affecting paid ads, at least I hope not.

@EmmanuelFlossie Yeah I had run across a quick mention on someone’s random site stating they were ‘trying it out’. That was my fear as well. : ( Thank you for trying as well. I guess I’ll be turning off Google shopping entirely.

@Jonhaus Google support might literally be THE WORST I’ve ever experienced. They don’t even know what the ‘quick checkout’ button IS on their own platform. I too am fairly tech savvy now and tried everything, tried to find solutions online, asked my actually dev for the site and nothing.

Somehow Google’s support team knows even less, which is terrifying.

I too am certain that we as end users cannot remove it. I haven’t tried the paid ads, but I have no budget for that right now. Seems absolutely obsurd that we cannot choose how OUR business is effected.

@Jonhaus I just tried to make a $1 Ad, and it gave me zero options to change anything related to the ‘quick checkout’. Let me know if you have any luck.

From what I can see on my end the paid ads are linking to the landing page I provided in the feed and are not using the cart permalink that is showing at times showing on the organic listings.

I do worry what other users are experiencing since it seems the ads change dynamically. If it is taking them to the cart the clicks are worthless.

@EmmanuelFlossie @Jonhaus I just got confirmation from someone at Google who confirmed this is part of a pilot program between Shopify and Google and that they automatically put it on my account. They claim they are submitting a request to have it removed… but only time will tell.

Thank you. I had given up on the support. But I will try to reengage them and get them moving in that direction.

@Jonhaus You have to use a different e-mail (their support is useless). If you shoot me a message on here I can send it to you.

@JPHB85 Typical Google, first creates a headache, then have to make changes due to complaints. I would logically think they will offer an opt out, as not everyone wants this for technical or for other reasons.

Hi! This thread has been “helpful” in respect to feeling better that my frustration isn’t in my inability to figure this out as it seems to not be something I can control. I’ve never used this forum to message and don’t see where I can message you – can you please send me the email via message or email at my personal: aubrey.judson@gmail.com? Thanks!!

Any luck figuring out how to take off the “Quick checkout” button? I’m going through this issue now and I’m not getting any help from Google.

@HardyPaw @aublajud you have to e-mail them at com-support (at) google.com and ask them to remove the ‘Buy Now’ or ‘Quick Checkout’ button from your account. Explain that you cannot have that feature enabled for your business and that it is a problem. For me it was a problem that customers skipped my ‘cart’ page because that is where I include other options like Route protection and have a cart minimum. It is a beta between Google shopping and Shopify and you are automatically enrolled when you open the connection apparently.

I was just reviewing my Google Merchant Center notifications and noticed a message on 9/6/23 “Introducing the checkout feature on the Google & YouTube app” that outlines the new feature and provides the following link to more info and directions on how to turn it off.

https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/13644598

Unfortunately, I did find that setting on my own a few weeks ago and turned it off, but after some recent test searches on Google Shopping I see that the Buy Now options are still displays on my product listings. I emailing google at the link address provided by ContempoCrystal, and got an auto-reply. Then I went into Google Merchant and clicked on the Support link and was able to chat with someone at Google. This was actually worth doing – he saw that the “Buy Now” feature was in fact turned off on their end even though it was still showing up. He’s currently taking this back to his team to figure out why, but if all goes well he’ll have it resolved today.
