Hi everyone,
I’m running a Shopify store connected to Google Merchant Center through the Google & YouTube app, and I’m having a strange issue with Standard Shopping campaigns in Google Ads.
This has now happened twice with two separate Standard Shopping campaigns:
The campaign starts normally during the learning phase. I get impressions, clicks, and even a few sales. Product status looks fine, the campaign is eligible, and Merchant Center has around 2,600 approved products available for Shopping ads.
But as soon as the learning phase appears to be completed, the campaign basically flatlines.
For example, my latest Shopping campaign had:
318 clicks
32.1k impressions
average CPC around 1.38 SEK
439 SEK spent
a few sales during the active learning/testing period
Then, on the day after learning ended, it dropped to almost nothing
8 clicks
559 impressions
11.37 SEK spent
then basically 0 impressions for many hours
Google Ads says there are no problems showing the campaign. The campaign is active and eligible. Merchant Center also looks mostly fine, with roughly 2,000+ eligible products. There are some product issues, but most products are approved and available.
This exact same pattern happened with my first Standard Shopping campaign as well. It got traffic during the initial phase, then died after learning. That is why I temporarily switched to Performance Max, which does get traffic, but I would prefer Standard Shopping because I want more control.
I have tried different bidding approaches before, including Maximize Clicks with a max CPC limit, and manual CPC-style adjustments. The issue does not look like a simple bid setting problem, because the campaign gets impressions and clicks at first, then suddenly stops after the learning/initial phase.
Has anyone else seen this pattern with Standard Shopping campaigns?
Specifically:
Shopping campaign gets impressions/clicks/sales during learning
Learning ends
Campaign remains eligible
Products remain approved in Merchant Center
But impressions go completely flat
Could this be related to Merchant Center feed trust, product data quality, Shopify/Google app syncing, account history, product competitiveness, or something else?

Learning phase ended (total flatline):
Any ideas on where to look next would be appreciated. I’ve attached screenshots showing the performance drop.
Thanks in advance!
