Google UCP

I have a few questions relating to Google UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol)

  1. Will other payment options (apart from Google, Shop Pay and PayPal) which are currently available in Shopify (such as Visa, Apple Pay etc) be available in UCP?
  2. For stores to be visible in agentic shopping, will products have to have unique SKUs. At the moment we use different product titles for each product but not SKUs.
  3. Will agentic shopping agents be able to see a site wide discount code advertised on a banner and apply that code to checkouts?

Thanks for any advice!

Hey @julie_15 you’re definitely ahead of the agentic commerce trends. These are great questions! @EmmanuelFlossie will be offering his advice shortly!

Hello Julie, great questions.

Generally, Google does not disclose what will come in the future, until they launch it. Unless you get some leaked info when Google is performing beta tests. So unfortunately at the moment, we would not know until Google adds it.

The SKU is not required, because Google Merchant Center uses a product ID, which can be any identifier. If for example you use the Google and youtube app, the id’s will look like shopify_US_123456789_123456798

If you use more advanced apps, then the ID can be the SKU value.

However, what you use, doesn’t really matter.

If you add the promotion (discount) in Google Merchant Center, it should be visible yes. However I can not confirm just yet, as maybe Google will not use the native solution and instead add this option later. I am saying that because currently, you can add promotions to shopping, free listings, chrome, and google wallet. How it will look like is still too early to say.

If you want to start enabling it, here is a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puwxIVzTI5I
