Group Tags Together Based on Prefix (Refresh Theme)

Topic summary

Main issue: On a Shopify Collections page using the Refresh theme and the Shopify Search & Discovery app, filter options under a custom “More Filters” facet show full product tags with prefixes (e.g., “Genre_ Science Fiction”) instead of just the readable value (“Science Fiction”).

Requested changes:

  • Remove the prefix from displayed tag labels within filters.
  • Group tags by their prefix so the navigation becomes Filters → More Filters → Genre → “Science Fiction” (and other genres), showing values without the prefix.

Context: “More Filters” currently aggregates all product tags. The poster suspects the Refresh theme may be causing the full tag display. The goal is cleaner, hierarchical filtering based on tag prefixes.

Status: No solution provided yet; the user is seeking guidance on whether this is possible via settings, theme customization, or app configuration.

Notes: A screenshot is attached illustrating the current filter menu and how tags are displayed with prefixes.

Hello again! I’m looking to simplify our Filter options on our Collections page. When we select Filters in the top left hand corner, a menu opens on the right hand side. We’re currently using the Shopify Search & Discovery app, and created an option called “More Filters”. It’s housing all of our product tags at the moment, but it’s displaying the entire tag (not certain but I think it might be because of the Refresh Theme). Ex. Genre_Science Fiction when it should just say Science Fiction.

Is there a way to remove the prefix from the Filter option? And moreover, is there a way for us to group the tags together? So that the thread would look something like Filters → More Filters → Genre → “science fiction”. Where science fiction could be any genre listed and displaying without the prefix?
