Has Shopify discontinued 20% recurring commission for Shopify Plus referrals?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some clarity from other partners regarding Shopify Plus referral commissions.

Previously, my understanding was that Shopify offered around a 20% recurring monthly commission on successful referrals (including Shopify Plus deals). However, I recently upgraded a client to Shopify Plus and received an email from Shopify stating that I would receive a one-time $2,500 commission instead.

This is quite different from what I expected.

Has anyone else experienced this recently?

  • Has Shopify changed or discontinued the recurring commission model for Shopify Plus referrals?

  • Is this dependent on how the lead was submitted or attributed?

  • Are there different structures now (fixed bounty vs recurring)?

Would really appreciate any insights or recent experiences from other partners.

Here is the terms.
Looks like 20% is for new builds:

Only client transfer store transfers are eligible for recurring commission

You need to bring in the new client to Shopify, it does not work if they just upgrade to higher plan.

Thanks for clarifying, In my case, I actually created a development store from a partner account, transferred it as an Advanced plan, and then upgraded it to Shopify Plus. Once I provided the SOW to the Shopify sales rep, the credit was applied
