Starting April 27, 2026 with version 11.5, the way custom amount discounts apply to line items in Shopify POS is changing.
What’s changing
Custom discount amounts will now apply per unit rather than as a total across all units. This brings POS in line with how discounts already work in Returns and Exchanges and Draft Orders in Shopify Admin.
Before: A $5 custom discount on a $20 line item with quantity 2: $5 total discount → $35.00 charged.
After: A $5 custom discount on a $20 line item with quantity 2: $5 per unit ($10 discount total) → $30.00 charged
The discount input field will display a “per unit” label to help guide staff at checkout.
Note: This change does not affect discount codes or automatic discounts.
What to do before April 27

Let your staff know that custom discount amounts are now entered per unit

Review and update any training materials or workflows that reference how custom line item discounts are entered

Where possible, update all devices at the same time to avoid discrepancies across your team
If you use an MDM solution, you can control when the update is deployed. Otherwise, it will be available automatically when you upgrade the app.
Using a custom POS extension that applies discounts?
This change is version gated to the API. There is no impact to existing extensions. The EACH allocation behaviour takes effect with API version 2026-07 and above extensions targeting this version should be updated to pass EACH allocation directly.
