The entire world seems to be charging the customers this fee. Even my wholesalers have implemented this. Why does Shopify not have an easy solution for this?
Hi,
This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.
The fee you’re referring to is likely the Environmental Impact Fee (EIF), which many online retailers are now adding to their orders to offset the environmental impact of shipping and packaging.
Why Shopify Doesn’t Have a Built-in Solution:
- Complexity of Calculation: The EIF can vary based on factors like product weight, shipping distance, and packaging materials. A one-size-fits-all solution might not accurately reflect the true environmental impact of each order.
- Regional Variations: Environmental regulations and policies differ from country to country. A standardized solution might not be applicable to all regions.
- Customization Needs: Retailers often have specific preferences for how they want to calculate and display the EIF. A built-in solution might not offer enough flexibility.
Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.
Best regards,
Richard | PageFly
No accurate. The fee I am referring to is a credit card transaction fee. It has nothing to do with the environment, shipping or packaging. It is only about passing on the charge to the customer. This is a extremely common practice with other platforms.
Add it into your shipping or handling fees to offset the amount.
Hey! This is actually a really common need for Shopify POS merchants. There’s an app called Chargly (https://apps.shopify.com/chargly-pos-credit-card-fees) built specifically for this — it automatically adds a credit card surcharge or convenience fee at POS checkout when customers pay by card. No manual workarounds or shipping fee hacks needed. It works natively in Shopify POS so your staff just processes the sale as normal.
We also have another product for adding specialized fees in the ecommerce / online space (and POS):
Hope that helps!
