TL;DR: We have more than 3,000 product listings on our website and we’re trying to optimize our listing by only indexing relevant pages on our website. We noticed that our product tags creates multiple collection on our website which are being indexed in search engines. Thus, creating duplicates which is negatively affecting our SEO. An example of the URL being created is:
We thought that by following this help document: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/seo/editing-robots-txt , it will help us from this but it doesn’t seem to work. (We added this months ago and no changes yet on the listings being displayed on search engines)
This being said, we’re looking for a permanent solution to not index these type of URLs moving forward.
- Does Shopify have a permanent solution to this?
- If this require adding liquid code to the theme, which theme code should we use?
- Where should we apply / implement the liquid code in our theme?
We saw a similar discussion in the community: https://community.shopify.com/post/1455943 but we’re not certain if this is the correct process.
We appreciate your help in advance and we’ll look forward to any help that may come. Have a great day, everyone!
