Help! I tried out Shopify for a month, decided it wasn't for me and thought I cancelled everything

Hello Community,

Help! I tried out Shopify for a month for $1/ month, decided it wasn’t for me right now and thought I cancelled everything. Now I’m getting charged from Spotify on my credit card for $30/mo. When I try to deactivate my account (which was still in the $1/month trial) I’m getting an error that there are unpaid balances so I can’t cancel. When I click on the contact customer support 24/7 (help.shopify.com) I’m getting a page that says “There’s a Problem Loading The Page.”

What do I do?

Thank you!

L

Thank you! My intention with this post isn’t to decide if Shopify is for me. Right now because of where I am and unexpected turns in life, now isn’t the time to launch a store.

My intention is to find out why I’m being charged and why I can’t deactivate my shop. Hoping someone from Shopify can help as help.shopify.com only leads me to an error page.

Hi, @surface_design .

Welcome to the Shopify Community and thanks for sharing your question.

To confirm, were you able to follow the steps listed in our help center resource to successfully close your account? Deactivating your store cancels your Shopify subscription. If you continue to receive invoices after your store’s been deactivated, then it might be due to a third-party invoicing you (like for an app or domain), or a chargeback. Once you’ve followed the steps to close your store, you’ll receive an email to confirm that your store’s deactivated. You can still re-open your store or view your past bills, and your store’s information is guaranteed for 2 years.

I’ll share a screenshot below of a list to review prior to closing your store. Please note: The list below isn’t exhaustive. There might be other considerations that apply to your store.

That being said, we’re not able to view your account via our community forum for privacy and security reasons. You’ll need to get in touch with our support team via the Shopify Help Center so we can investigate further.

I understand you’re receiving an error message when trying to access the Help Center. To gather further context, could you provide information on the following:

  • When accessing the Help Center, are you logged into your store?
  • Where are you based? This will help our team determine if the issue is region-specific.
  • Can you share what steps you’ve taken prior to receiving the error message in the Help Center?

I look forward to your reply.
