A Squarespace store owner using the free Dawn theme encountered persistent issues where collection page images kept reverting to the same image across all collections, despite repeated attempts to save different images for each collection (Candles, Garden, etc.).
Root cause identified:
The user was editing the default template, which applies changes globally to all collections/products using that template
When changing an image on one collection page, it overwrote the image for all collections sharing the same template
The user had 5 collections/products all assigned to the default template, causing the conflict
Solution:
Create separate templates for each collection instead of using the default template for all
Alternatively, use Dynamic sources to display different content within the same template
For stores with few collections, individual templates work well; larger catalogs require Dynamic sources
Resolution: Issue resolved after understanding the template system. The user successfully created working pages by implementing separate templates.

Last night I swore I had this fixed. But today ALL of pages have the same image on them. I have checked the collections, I have checked the products, I have went through the pages 4x saving and changing to link to the right pages and it just reverts back.
I am obviously doing something wrong but cannot figure out what it is.
The Candle picture from Collections on front page should go to a landing page where you can select View All Candles, it does go to the Candle page but the picture in the collection is the garden banner. If I change the collection itself to reflect candles and save, it doesn’t stay there after I change the rest of the products. Ugh!
Correct. From home page to landing page is fine. But I cannot seem to get each page like Candles, etc. to then link to the correct collection display only candles. Every time I save them all, it reverts back again to one image. I must be doing some linking wrong somewhere? I hope you can find it.
Not sure if this is the case, but when you’re editing section settings on the collection page they apply to all collections using this template, not to this particular collection you currently see.
Same with products – they all share the same template (by default) and if you add some sections to the product page template, it will be the same for all products.
Say, you go to collection page and add an image banner section, select image and save. This image will now be visible on all collection pages in your shop which use this template. If you go to another collection and select a different image for this section there – it will apply to all collection pages once again.
Some sections (usually main page sections, like collection grid or product info) pull data from the current collection/product/page automatically and show different content on different pages.
So, if you have only a handful of collections, you can create a new template for each of them, then they will look different.
If you have a significant number of collections (products/pages/etc..) you’d need to use Dynamic sources to show different content in the same section on different pages.
I am glad you saw this. Here is my question. Am I creating page “templates” and linking product “templates” to them OR is it the other way around? Which comes first is where I am getting confused. I have published products and I have collections. And I think what you’re trying to say is my default Products and my default Collections both say they are assigned to 5 things, which I assume are the same 5 things. Meaning that’s why if I change my candles, then set to default, then change the next one the same, the picture changes because they all can’t be “Default” anything.
