I run an online record shop www.undergroundvinylsource.com and want to be able to participate in some pop-up shops at events. I’ve got the Shopify POS app and a BT card reader, so technically I’m good to go.
However, the part I’m struggling with is I want people to be able to listen to clips of the records before they buy for a better user experience.
The old-school way is to lug (one or more) 25lb turntables, you then need a pre-amp on each for headphones, etc. I don’t want to do that. Plus, I get such limited copies of new releases, I can’t have people touching / playing them and listening that way, because it would devalue what might be my only “Mint” copy. All of the records have samples / clips on my site, but having someone search for a title is a pain, so…
My solution idea is to maybe print QR code stickers for the outer protective sleeve with the URL of the item in my shop. Customers could scan the QR code on their own phones, take them right to the product detail page with the sample and could listen on their phone (with their own headphones or I could provide some bluetooth headphones to use).
My question for the group is does that sound like a feasible solution and what would be the best way to generate / print the QR codes onto a label? Ideally in continuous run batches, from a spreadsheet.
I’ve got a laser label printer (Brother QL-1110NWB) I use for shipping labels that I think would do the job if I can fig out how to set up the files.
It’s still a lot of work, as I’m talking about potentially hundreds of records / unique QR codes but I’m thinking it still is better than not being able to listen, or have customers search my site every time.
Also, I don’t particularly care about using the QR/barcodes to scan at checkout. I don’t see it being a high-volume thing where I couldn’t just manually add the products to an order on my iPad in the POS app to checkout. But if I did want to do that, what apps allow you to select your products, generate a unique barcode / QR code per product and print?
