Hi, I know this may be a little rudimentary a question, but I am trying to style my hero banner in a particular way—specifically video on one side and field of color and text on the other.
See this screenshot:
I can see from this that it is possible, but when formatting each side, I only see the option to insert an image but not a flat field of color…literally just a black background.
This is an example of what I am going for with our own brand style…Liquitex does it so well.

I hope you are well!
Basically, you need to add the hero section with the images and need to add the styling using CSS. With the CSS you can design the hero section as per your needs.
@ambullseye using custom css , background color can be changed from black to the other color you want

Well, for that section, a simple solution is to upload an image with a black background 
But yes, another request to the server, but it is not that bad.
I uploaded 1x1 px image with just a black background, and it worked for me.
But there is another section in the new free themes named “Split Showcase”. There, for each “group” you can set “Background media”, so one can be “none” and the other “video”. And depending on your colors, you can also set Overlay to black.
