Hide Inbox Chat icon outside business hours

I know you can set automated away messages outside business hours. But is there an option to hide the Chat button outside these hours? That way the customer can only chat if we’re open.

this would be helpful if we can get this as an option!

Soooo… I take it this is NOT an option then?

Is this something we can hire a developer to do via the code? or will Shopify not allow that?

Allright, This is what I did to the site I manage. My work-arounds.

  1. I added an “instant answer” into Inchat. Explaining the hours our chat support is available.

  2. I went into our chat greeting message and restated when our support team is available to respond to chat requests.

Was the best I could do, short of wriggling into the code itself.

This is a fairly complicated piece of behavior that can’t be done through basic theme modifications alone. However, because it’s directly relevant, I will mention that I recently released an app called “Spark Tools for Inbox” which has this capability, among other features.

For the offline behavior, you can specify to either hide the chat entirely, or display an offline button variant (eg: use a “Chat offline” label or something similar).

There’s also other features in case they might address your needs, like setting a custom icon, text, and font, showing a proactive chat message after a configured delay, adjusting the button size and position, showing/hiding the chat in certain countries (could be useful to reduce spam or exposure to non-target audiences), showing/hiding chat on certain pages, and more.

I’d love to hear any feedback you might have if you decide to give it a try. (I’m also always open to feature requests if you have more needs)
