Horizon: buy buttons are gone on the homepage

Hi! My shop is currently running with Horizon 1.0.1 but I planned to update it to the latest version. Unfortunately there’s no option anymore to add “buy buttons” to the product card on the homepage. I wanna give my customers the option to buy one of my products directly on the homepage which isn’t possible anymore :frowning:

Here you can see the blank space where the buttons are missing:

Now I’m wondering if it’s a bug or gone on purpose. Hope someone can help.

Best,
Denise

Hi @Maximus3, thank you for your fast response. Unfortunately the option for buy buttons isn’t there:

Just for reference: I build my layout with the Product card you can find here. As you see, I’m able to place Buy Buttons outside of these component, but since theres no product connected then, they are useless.

I need them within the Product card.

Here’s an example of my page with Horizon version 1.05. - the Buy Buttons are directly within the Product card, everything’s fine here.

Using the latest version, Horizon 2.1.4, you can see directly within the product card is “Add block”.

You click this and select “Buy buttons” as pictured here:

The new block is within the product card as pictured here:

Perhaps you are using an old version.

Hi @deniseh ,

In the latest Horizon theme, the hover on product cards has been replaced with the Quick Add feature.

However, you can still quickly add a ‘Buy Buttons’ block to the product card section. Please refer to the screenshot below.

I hope the screenshot is helpful for you.
Best regards,

Hi @mageplaza-cs, thank you very much for your response. Unfortunately in my case it doesn’t help me. As you can see in my screenshot, I build a custom section with 2 product card components (it’s the same product card but with that and the new amazing grouping function I was able to build my desired vertical layout) just showcase one specific product.

In your screenshot I see it’s based on a product list. I tried to recreate my layout with a collection which includes a single product but I cannot reproduce my layout - instead of that I would have a massive product card because of the huge image and no possibility to place the image next to the product information, but yeh… I would have buy buttons again  :

So, the buy buttons were removed from the single product card component intentionally? If yes, is there an option to request a feature?

just for reference, this is how amazing it looks with Horizon 1.0.5:

Hi Denise,

Great question you’re not alone on this one. In Horizon 1.0.1 and earlier versions, there was an option to display “Buy” or “Add to Cart” buttons directly on the product cards. With the latest Horizon update, Shopify made some design changes to streamline the theme and improve performance, and the default “Buy buttons” on product cards were removed.

That said, you still have a couple of options:

  1. Theme Editor Settings
Double-check under your Theme Editor → Product Grid / Product Card settings. Some themes allow you to toggle “Show quick add button” or “Enable add to cart button.” If that’s available, simply switch it back on.

  2. Re-adding the Feature (Customization)
If you don’t see a setting in your current version, this isn’t a bug — it’s intentional. You’d need a small customization:

    • Either by editing the product card liquid file to re-enable the {{ form 'product' }} button

    • Or by adding a “Quick Add” block if your version supports blocks.

  3. Alternative Solutions

    • Quick View / Quick Add apps: Shopify App Store has free and paid apps that add “Add to Cart” buttons on collection or homepage grids.

    • Rollback Option: If this button is critical to your store’s UX and you don’t want custom coding, you can also duplicate and keep using Horizon 1.0.1 until the feature is officially re-introduced (many users have provided feedback, so it may return in later updates).

So in short: it’s not a bug, it’s a design change. You’ll either need to toggle it on if the option exists in Theme Settings, or customize the theme code / use an app to bring it back.

If you’d like step-by-step guidance on adding the button back through code, I can walk you through that as well.

Hi @richaerd,

thank you so much for your response. I’m happy to hear about the consideration to add the add to card buttons again. For now I was able to add it back myself due to your suggestion. I will keep an eye on the release notes. I’m also happy I can finally update my theme to the latest version :slightly_smiling_face:

Best,
Denise
