I really have a hard time to understand who in the whole Shopify Corporation decided that it is a brilliant idea to disable up and down arrows in Shopify Admin, timeline, comment and some other sections?
Here is the scenario:
You have multiple lines of comment and you remember to add a sentence at the very beginning of your comment. You can’t use the up arrow key to go back to the top. You have to either use your mouse to get there or use the left arrow key and wait for the cursor to go all the way back to the beginning of your comment.
I reached out to Shopify support and they told me “I can say that this is a limitation since this is how it was programmed in the back end.” which is absolutely meaningless. It was just working fine until a few days ago and it is ridiculous to claim it has anything to do with any limitations. Using up and down arrows existed before Windows, it is laughable to make these claims and not to try to address the issue.
Yes. It is very recent as I personally use Shopify Admin on a daily basis. It is a very basic function in any multiline box. What bothers me most is the gaslighting answer “this is a limitation since this is how it was programmed in the back end.” like I just stepped out of a cave and decided to use the Shopify Admin page and to my surprise up and down arrow is not working!
I understand it might be a decision that was made and implemented on the most recent update but I am expecting Shopify to at least acknowledge it although I refuse to accept there is any meaningful logic to implement such a change.
So you are saying that there is a multiline comment in your scenario. And you want to go to the top, you have to hit the left arrow key multiple times and you cannot use the arrow key.
Have you tried other keys like Ctrl + Home key?
100% agreed. It sounds like a UX bug to me as well and that’s what I was trying to explain to them. Calling it an intentional “backend limitation” is not helpful at all.
”Have you tried testing in Polaris heavy sections vs older admin views?” If you don’t mind, could you elaborate more on that? How can I do that?

Quick update: Today, I noticed that the issue is resolved and Up and Down arrows function as they should.
