It took us a while to build a hosting solution for our Shopify app that is secure, scalable and highly available without breaking the bank. Ultimately we were able to build a fully serverless solution on AWS.
Because I assume some of you are looking for something similar, I detailed the entire solution in a whitepaper. For fans of infrastructure as code, the solution is also available as a series of CloudFormation scripts.
